Playground Safety

Now that the weather is warming up and you'll be spending more time outside, make sure you stay safe on the playground.

Safety Tips
When you see the word equipment it means playground equipment like slides, swings, merry-go-rounds and seesaws...things you would play on at the playground.

  • Take turns on playground equipment.
  • Make sure you take off your bike helmet when playing on playground equipment.
  • Tell a grown-up if equipment does not look safe, some unsafe things might be a swing chain is broken, climbing bars are loose or broken, there is no soft surface (such as chips, mulch, mats) under equipment that could hurt you if you fall.
  • Only play on equipment that is safe for kids your age. Equipment for kids that are 5-12 years old is way too big for younger kids (2-5 year olds).
  • Play gently - pushing and roughhousing on equipment can lead to falls.
  • Always swing sitting down, with one person on the swing at a time. Walk far away from a swing with someone on it.
  • Wait your turn on the slide until the person in front of you has slid all the way down and gotten off.
